Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Muslims to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-ul-Maulud to reflect on the life and virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and emulate his teachings in their daily lives.
The Federal Government had declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to mark the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the Prophet as a timeless role model for all humanity.
“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings and follow his examples in our daily activities. Let us imbibe the lessons of compassion, peace and support for one another as preached by our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” Barau said.
He urged Muslims and Nigerians in general to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in the country, stressing that unity remains crucial in tackling national challenges.
Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to enacting reforms that address the country’s pressing needs.
According to him, the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, which he chairs, has been working to incorporate citizens’ views into proposed amendments. He noted that the recent zonal public hearings across the six geopolitical zones attracted massive participation from stakeholders.
“Critical national issues, including local government autonomy, electoral and judicial reforms, state creation, state police and inclusive governance, were all examined. We are not leaving any stone unturned in our quest to address the gaps in our laws for the benefit of all,” he added.
The lawmaker further disclosed that the National Assembly will resume from its annual recess on September 23, 2025.
