The Senate will on Thursday, October 16, 2025, conduct the screening of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the position of Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, by Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, Director of Information, Office of the Secretary, Research and Information of the National Assembly.
According to the statement, the screening exercise will take place in the Senate Chamber, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Members of the Senate Press Corps have been urged to provide media coverage of the event to ensure adequate dissemination of information to the public.
The statement further appealed to television stations to provide live coverage of the proceedings as part of efforts to promote transparency and public engagement in the confirmation process.
“The Directorate appreciates your continued cooperation and professional coverage of National Assembly activities,” Bi-Allah said.
President Tinubu had recently nominated Professor Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and professor of law, to succeed the immediate past INEC Chairman.
The forthcoming screening is expected to attract wide public interest given the pivotal role of the electoral umpire in Nigeria’s democratic process.
