TRUEPOINTNEWS Abuja-Over 1,000 members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging allegiance to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.

The defectors, operating under the banner of Kwankwasiyya One Blood, announced their defection during a ceremony held on Sunday at the Fine Time Events Centre in Kano metropolis. In a symbolic move, they discarded their signature red caps, which represent the Kwankwasiyya Movement, signaling a complete break from the NNPP.

Speaking on behalf of the group, their leader, Aminu Murtala Minjibir, said the decision to join the APC was driven by the visible interventions and contributions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Barau in Kano and beyond.

He added that the group has now rebranded itself as Barau Maliya One Blood to reflect their new political direction.

> “We are more than 1,000 in this hall, and we have members across all the 44 local government areas of Kano State. Today is historic as we are joining the train of success — the APC. Senator Barau has been positively impacting the lives of Kano people, and we are grateful for his leadership,” Minjibir said.

Receiving the defectors, Senator Barau described their defection as “a wise and progressive decision,” commending their courage to align with what he called the “largest party in Africa.”

> “We are here to receive hardworking youth, men, and women from the Kwankwasiyya Movement into our great party, the APC. You have made the right choice. The NNPP is a small party with limited reach, confined to a few areas within Kano metropolis, and its fortunes have been declining,” Barau said.

He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to Kano and the North, noting that the President had always responded positively to requests from the region.

> “President Tinubu is doing a lot for our people. All he needs now is our support and prayers. With your commitment, we shall continue to succeed, by the grace of God,” he added.

The event was attended by APC stalwarts, youth leaders, and political supporters from across the state.
