The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid a solidarity visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing growing concerns over recent political pressures targeting opposition parties in Nigeria.
During the high-level engagement, the PDP leadership acknowledged what it described as a shared and increasing threat confronting opposition parties, noting that the party itself has faced similar challenges in recent times. The delegation stressed the need for vigilance and unity to safeguard democratic principles and political plurality in the country.
The PDP delegation was led by prominent figures including Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, and Babangida Aliyu, alongside other key party stakeholders.
They were received by ADC leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, and Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
In their response, the ADC leadership expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated concerns over what they described as an existential threat to Nigeria’s democracy, particularly through efforts aimed at weakening major opposition platforms. Both parties emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration in defending democratic institutions.
The visit underscores growing calls for stronger alignment among opposition parties amid the evolving political climate in the country.
