TRUEPOINTNEWS ABUJA- The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the Presidency's celebration of a purported letter from United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Tinubu, saying diplomatic correspondence between world leaders cannot be interpreted as an endorsement of the Nigerian government's performance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the reported communication from the U.S. President would not shield the Tinubu administration from the judgment of Nigerians at the polls.
The ADC argued that while exchanges of letters between heads of state are routine in international diplomacy, the Presidency's attempt to portray the letter as evidence of international approval reflected what it described as "desperation for any form of validation."
According to the party, the realities confronting Nigerians—including insecurity, kidnappings and attacks on communities across parts of the country—remain unchanged despite the diplomatic exchange.
The statement noted that hundreds of women and children are still reportedly being held captive in parts of Borno and Kaiama in Kwara State, while communities in Benue and other states continue to face persistent security threats.
The party also pointed to the United States Department of State's travel advisory on Nigeria, which continues to place several parts of the country under Level 3 and Level 4 travel warnings over crime, terrorism, kidnapping and civil unrest.
It questioned how a letter from a government that still advises its citizens against travelling to parts of Nigeria could be interpreted as an endorsement of the administration's security record.
The ADC maintained that Nigerians would ultimately assess the Tinubu government based on improvements in their daily lives rather than diplomatic courtesies exchanged with foreign leaders.
The party urged the administration to focus on delivering tangible results in security, governance and economic wellbeing instead of celebrating what it described as routine international correspondence.
