The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Benue State, Dr. Ogbenjuwa Oyije Ocheakiti, has continued his statewide "Thank You" tour with a visit to Agatu Local Government Area, where he received a rousing welcome and presented the party's plans to tackle insecurity and accelerate development.
The event, held at Ogbaulu-Agatu, attracted party leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and supporters, with the campaign describing the visit as an opportunity to introduce Dr. Ocheakiti, a Russian and Israeli-trained counter-terrorism expert, as part of the party's strategy to address the security challenges confronting Benue State.
Receiving the PDP delegation, the Clan Head of Ogbaulu, Chief Sani Elameje, accompanied by members of his traditional council, offered prayers for the success of the Aondoakaa/Ogbenjuwa ticket in the forthcoming general election.
The delegation included the PDP candidate for Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, Hon. Joseph Adama (popularly known as Otalaka); the party's candidate for Agatu State Constituency, Hon. Gabriel Olofu; the Agatu Local Government PDP Chairman; all ten ward chairmen in the council; as well as leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and representatives of the Muslim community.
The campaign also claimed that several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) defected to the PDP during the visit, pledging their support for the Aondoakaa/Ogbenjuwa governorship ticket.
Addressing supporters, Dr. Ocheakiti highlighted the party's policy priorities, promising prudent management of Benue State's resources and greater accountability in the use of public funds for infrastructure and community development.
He also outlined plans to strengthen security by fostering collaboration with neighbouring states to curb the movement of armed criminal groups into Benue South and Agatu Local Government Area.
The event ended with cultural displays, traditional drumming and solidarity songs by supporters, who expressed optimism about the PDP's chances in the 2027 governorship election.
