We read with dismay the fruitless effort by one Usman Okai Austine to demarket Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state whose popularity hinges on the fact that he is building bridges of unity and inclusiveness within his state in particular and across the nation in general.
The said Okai, in a publication yesterday on his Facebook page and circulated to other social media platforms alleged that GYB is being divisive and tribalistic in his handling of affairs of the state with particular reference to the recent visit to President Muhammadu Buhari by a deligation from Kogi state led by Gov. Bello, accusing the Governor for selecting only people from his senatorial district.
Ordinarily, one would have ignored Okai whose regular media outings is not only mischievous and malicious but aimed at distorting facts and misinforming the unsuspecting public to score political points, however, we feel duty bound to put the record straight especially on the recent visit to Daura.
1. Apart from the delegates which the poster deliberately mentioned in his publication to have been selected only from the governor's tribe, others on the delegation were CPS Unogwu (Kogi East), MD Confluence Rice, Segun (Ogun State), Chairman KGIRS Isah (Kogi West), Solid Mineral Commissioner, Bashir (Kogi West), GYB, President, SA Youth, Jibril (Kogi West) DG protocol, Sunday (Kogi West) SA PR Bolori (Borno) Omala LG Secretary, Joy (Kogi East), SA Haruna is from Kogi East and several others including the governor's driver who is Austin Okai's kinsman.
Instructively also is the fact that the deligation was made up of people from the local government level and not just top state government functionaries.
2. The poorly fabricated article lamented the total neglect of infrastructural development in Kogi state at a time the Governor is transforming the state infrastructurally exposes the author's mischievous characteristics.
The Ganaja junction flyover project is ongoing, operation light up Kogi East project is at 95% completion, the Referral Hospital in Okene as well as the Zonal Hospital in Idah, Isanlu and Koton-Karfe which are all to be completed this year. Remodeling of the state Specialist Hospital and rehabilitation of the University Teaching Hospital and many more are infrastructural testimonials of the Bello's administration.
With all these couple with regular payment of workers salaries and the towering popularity of the Governor, it has become difficult for his detractors to constructively criticize him, hence the resort to mere mischief, malice, fabrication and blatant falsehood.
We therefore, advise Austine Okai and his diminishing sponsors to rechannel their efforts towards doing something meaningful as the arrow of GYB has already left the bowl and no amount of falsehood will stop it from hitting the target.
