Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Ekpe Ogbu has stated the readiness of the Ministry to work with the State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Development for meaningful development of the state.
Chief Ogbu who stated this Tuesday when the House Standing Committee visited the Ministry on its oversight function pointed out the enormous support the ministry enjoyed from the State Assembly, particularly amendment of the Urban Development Board edict.
He pledged the continuous cooperation of the ministry with the committee in order to accelerate development of the state and sued for understanding of the House Committee for exigencies that caused delay in interface with them.
Chief Ogbu informed the Committee that the ministry has executed numerous projects and offered technical expertise in execution of projects under the Ortom administration, adding that some of the projects were initiated under his watch while others were inherited from the past leadership and some were completed, with others ongoing.
According to the Commissioner some of the projects were the reconstruction of Government Girls Model School and Special School for Exceptional Children both in Aliade, General Hospital Gbajimba, the gigantic Tor Tiv Palace, Governor's office complex, Mama Abayol Children Home, while reconstruction of Och'idoma's palace, NYSC Multipurpose Hall, defunct Lobi Bank Complex for use as BIRS headquarters were ongoing.
In a remark, Chairman Benue State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Development Mr. Ogbu Otumola explained that the essence of the oversight visit was to know how the Ministry under its legislative purview was fairing, but lamented that previous attempts to pay oversight visit to the ministry were fruitless and called for change.
The House Committee Chairman along side members and secretary as well as Commissioner for the Ministry, Permanent Secretary and Directors visited building for cells at Maximum Security Custodian Centre at Nigerian Correctional Centre Makurdi and Speaker of the State Assembly's official residence projects.
