(TRUEPOINTNEWS)The Nigerian Senate has summoned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to appear before its Committee on Legislative Compliance on October 28, 2025, over the agency’s alleged failure to comply with a directive to compensate the family of Onosereba, whose younger brother, Eromonsele, lost his sight during an NDLEA operation.
It would be recalled that the tragic incident occurred during an NDLEA raid, in which Eromonsele was struck by a stray bullet that damaged his eye, leaving him permanently blind.
Despite the Senate’s resolution directing the NDLEA to pay ₦200 million compensation to the family and take full responsibility for Eromonsele’s medical treatment, the agency is yet to comply.
Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Compliance, Senator Garba Maidoki, said the committee decided to summon the NDLEA to explain why it had ignored a clear parliamentary directive.
“We had a discussion with the parents, and they told us the NDLEA has not communicated with them,” Senator Maidoki told journalists after meeting with the family. “The boy’s eye condition is deteriorating rapidly, and this is unacceptable. So, we have scheduled a meeting with the NDLEA for the 28th of October to explain why no action has been taken up to this point.”
The committee, Maidoki added, will also brief the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to facilitate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in ensuring justice and prompt support for the victim’s family.
He emphasized the Senate’s resolve to hold government agencies accountable for compliance with legislative resolutions, particularly those affecting citizens’ welfare and human rights.
