The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State has successfully conducted its State Congress, affirming party executives from the polling unit level up to the state structure.
At the state level, former three-term House of Representatives member, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, emerged as Chairman of the State Working Committee, which will steer the party’s affairs for the next four years.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon. Shola Ojoh, described the exercise as peaceful and well-coordinated, noting that the consensus approach ensured a hitch-free process without disputes. He expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of future elections.
Delegates from all 23 local government areas and aspirants for various political positions turned out in large numbers, adding to the credibility and strength of the exercise. The process also received institutional backing, with the Congress Screening Committee led by Barr. Jacob Ogwuche, the Appeal Committee chaired by Hon. Nelson Ogbu, as well as the DSS and other security agencies, playing key roles in ensuring order and transparency.
Speaking at the event, Senator Orker-Jev urged party members to remain united and disciplined, stressing that the ADC is entering a renewed phase of growth.
On legal concerns, Rt. Comr. Alex Adum said attempts to disrupt the congress failed, expressing confidence in the recognition of the new leadership.
In his acceptance remarks, Samson Okwu thanked stakeholders for the confidence reposed in the new executives, pledging to uphold the party’s ideals and strengthen its structure across the state.
Party leaders and candidates also commended the peaceful conduct of the congress, urging continued unity as the ADC positions itself for future electoral success.
