Since the first case of Covid-19 in Benue was transferred to Abuja on request, no fresh case of the disease has been identified in the state.
Disclosing this to Benue Crack Media Team (BCMT), Secretary to the State Action Committee on Covid-19 and Commissioner for Health Dr. Sunday Ongbabo explained that those on isolation so far have not shown symptoms of the dreaded disease.
Ongbabo who said that those on self isolation in connection with the Benue index case have not yet manifested symptoms of the illness however, added that the mandatory 14 days of isolation have not elapsed.
He stressed that unknown to many people, the fight against the global pandemic has been on since early February 2020 when the state Ministry of Health set up a monitoring team and directed people who returned from COVID-19 affected countries to isolate themselves but afterwards no symptoms of the disease manifested in them.
On the state of the Benue index case, Susan Okpe, the health expert revealed that in line with the ethics of the proffession, the action committee was no longer in the position to comment on her present health condition.
In respect of the Ghanaian bassed footballer who returned to Okpokwu, his home local government in a sick condition and died on his way to Abuja, Ongbabo said the committee was not also in the position to ascertain weather the footballer died of Covid-19 or not since the Committee did not have relevant health records of the deceased.
Notwithstanding, the committee secretary said that a delegation was being sent to Okpokwu to ensure that the burial was conducted in line with Covid-19 global protocols.
On the recent effort of Benue State in ensuring that the people continue to remain coronavirus free, Ongbabo informed that the state executive council led by Governor Samuel Ortom has approved a released of more funds for the war against the novel virus and maintained that more isolation centers were being extablished while some MDGs clinics were undergoing upgrades for the same purpose
