Governor Samuel Ortom today commissioned the reconstructed Central Primary School and the Ikyowe-Amaafu-Gbor-Adoor-Mbaton rural electrification project all in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The event marked the commissioning of primary schools and rural electrification projects executed by the Ortom administration in Benue North East Senatorial District.
The Governor restated the resolve of his administration to make primary education in the state strongest so that pupils would be equipped with the requisite knowledge for further academic excellence.
He said only last year, 70,000 desks and chairs were procured by the state government and distributed to primary schools in the state, stressing that 42,350 desks and chairs would be procured and distributed to schools this year.
The Governor also said 200 boreholes had been sunk in various primary schools across the state, stressing that more would be provided this year when the next contracts under the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, intervention are awarded.
At the commissioning of the Ikyowe-Amaafu-Gbor-Adoor-Mbaton rural electrification project at Gbor, Governor Ortom pledged to construct the bridge across Lukur Stream and takeover of Kera-Adikpo-Utongo-Gbor Market rural electrification project started by Engineer Chihichan Gbede.
He acknowledged the support of the people of Katsina-Ala to his administration despite security challenges, adding that the only way to pay them back was through the provision of dividends of democracy.
Senator representing Benue North East at the National Assembly, Dr. Gabriel Suswam said it was remarkable for a Governor to embark on massive construction and renovation of structures across the state, stressing that the impact of the projects would be felt for years.
Benue State Commissioner for education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar and SUBEB Chairman, Comrade Joseph Utse, said the Governor Ortom-led administration had so far expended N20 billion on primary education, saying that about 200 new school projects had already been advertised.
Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Titus Uba and Member representing Katsina-Ala, Logo and Ukum at the House of Representatives, Comrade Richard Gbande, pledged their support to the Ortom administration for the laudable projects it had executed for people of the state.
