Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Benue state, several communities, state and federal constituencies are meeting to zone elective positions for a rancor free exercise.
As a result, the expanded caucus of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in Otukpo Local Government Area, led by the Deputy Governor of Benue state, Engr Benson Abounu today unanimously zoned the next Otukpo / Akpa State Constituency seat to Akpa District.
Akpa district otherwise known as Akweya consists of two politically strong council wards of Otobi and Allan but since the inception of the fourth republic has not been allowed to occupy the seat for more than two terms.
The decision to allow only the Akweya people take a shot on the legislative contest again in 2023 was adjudged by many stakeholders of Otukpo including, the council chairman, Hon George Alli, State Women Leader, Chief Mrs. Abeje Egwa, Hon Gabriel Olofu, Hon Oklo Eineje Oklo, Hon Ediga Akpa, Hon Joseph Oche Gordon and many others as the best thing to do in the spirit of fairplay.
Reacting to the outcome of the meeting, Leader of the PDP in Akpa, Hon Abba Adaudu expressed profound happiness and satisfaction on the fallout of the meeting and thanked all Otukpo stakeholders for conceding the party ticket for the assembly to his people and described them as big brothers who have shown tremendous interest in the political growth of the Akweya people.
He however, appealed to those from the Otukpo axis who earlier indicated interest and have already purchased forms ready for the contest to accept the decision of the caucus in good faith and promised that in no time his people will meet to present a generally acceptable candidate to the caucus.
On the other hand, the caucus also zoned the Ugboju / Adoka state Assembly seat to Ugboju District for equity and fairness.
