The federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated an Abuja based philanthropist and leader of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in Akpa district of Otukpo local government area, Mr Abba Adaudu as chairman Federal Government College Otobi School Based Management Committee, SBMC.
The ceremony which took place at the Conference Hall of the college in Otobi today had the Minister of Education Mallam Ademu Ademu represented by the Director, Senior Secondary Education Department, Hajia Binta Abdukadir.
The minister disclosed that the selection of Mr Adaudu was purely on merit owing to his numerous contributions to community developments especially in the area of education.
Emphasizing the main objective of the management committee, the Minister said "The main objective of setting up the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) is to chart the way forward for the smooth, effective and efficient running of our Colleges and to bring the management of the Colleges nearer to the host community" adding that
"It is in line with this, that the initiative was developed by Federal Ministry of Education with the support of United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) and approved by the National Council on Education (NCE) with the aim of forming a formidable and reliable team made of seasoned professional"
On his part, the principal of the college Mr Amodipe Gabriel who earlier led the celebrant and his entourage on a facility tour expressed confidence on the ability of the new chairman to deliver on the task and called on the support of the community on peace and security.
While accepting to serve, Adaudu appreciated the Minister and the school management team for finding him worthy of the position and pledged to work with other members of the committee to ensure growth and development of the institution even as he lauded the development efforts of the principal.
