In a renewed bid to tackle the worsening security situation in Benue State, Hon. David Olofu, the immediate past Commissioner for Finance, has been appointed to chair a high-level security and development committee for Apa Local Government Area. The appointment came during a stakeholders consultation meeting convened by the Apa Traditional Council on Saturday.

The meeting, held under the auspices of the council, brought together royal fathers, political leaders, scholars, and dignitaries to address the unrelenting attacks on communities across Apa LGA, which have led to significant loss of lives, property, and the collapse of social and economic activities in the region.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Olofu emphasized the importance of unity and long-term strategic collaboration beyond political or personal divides.

 “The quest to secure our land is not a one-time effort. It is a lifetime commitment that requires unity of purpose and collective strategic thinking,” Olofu stated.

He expressed deep gratitude to the traditional rulers for their confidence in his leadership, particularly:

His Royal Highness Agangwu Baba Odangla I, Agangwu of Apa and Agatu, and Chairman of the Apa/Agatu Intermediate Area Traditional Council;

The Odejo K’Apa, Chief John Antenyi, Traditional Ruler of Apa.

The newly constituted committee, under Hon. Olofu's leadership, is tasked with assessing security challenges, developing a practical framework, and crafting a people-centered plan to restore peace and development to the local government.

Olofu also commended the wide representation at the meeting, noting the presence of influential figures from across the state as a signal of collective readiness to act.

 “We already have what it takes to secure and transform our land. The time to act is now,” he declared.

The meeting ended with a strong resolution to work in unity, reaffirming the community's determination to rise above insecurity and rebuild a peaceful future for all.
