The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday inaugurated its Policy and Manifesto Committee, with Dr David Olofu, a former Commissioner for Finance in Benue State and Benue South senatorial aspirant, named as a member of the high-powered body.

The committee is chaired by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie Oyegun, while renowned political economist, Prof Pat Utomi, serves as Vice Chairman.

Inaugurating the committee, the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David A. B. Mark (GCON), said Nigerians were in urgent need of compassionate governance and practical solutions, not rhetoric or abstract policy debates. He charged the committee to develop people-centred policies capable of easing the hardship faced by citizens amid rising poverty, insecurity, and high costs of living.

Senator Mark noted that Nigeria does not suffer from a lack of ideas but from the failure to translate policies into real improvements in the lives of the people. He urged the committee to focus on critical sectors including energy, food and agriculture, transportation, healthcare, education, security, and job creation, stressing that economic growth figures were meaningless if they did not reduce suffering.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chief Oyegun assured the party leadership of the committee’s commitment to delivering workable policies that would mark a clear departure from what he described as the failed governance of the APC. He expressed confidence that the ADC would offer Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee is expected to work through specialised sub-groups and engage experts and stakeholders nationwide to produce a manifesto anchored on compassion, accountability, and practical governance.
